This bachelor's program in Linguistics, offered as English Philology by Krosno State College in Poland, is taught in English and lasts three years, with yearly tuition set at EUR 2000. On completing the programme, students are awarded a bachelor's degree, known locally as licencjat. Graduates gain a strong command of spoken and written English alongside broad knowledge of linguistics and culture, literature and civilisation of English-speaking countries. In the course of study, students also develop the skill of translating a variety of texts both from English into Polish and from Polish into English, working in state-of-the-art language and computer laboratories. Students can additionally acquire pedagogic qualifications and can work as fully qualified teachers of English, and they are also well-prepared to work in other sectors where a good knowledge of English is required. Aside from the obligatory courses, students are offered a wide selection of elective courses run by Polish and foreign researchers in many philological fields, giving students the opportunity to develop their interests. Past elective offerings have included Introducing Poland, Business English, Modern Information Technology and the Internet in Teaching English, How to Teach English, and courses on Britain, Australia, Canada, and Ireland, as well as British Art and Music, the Holocaust, and American Pop Culture. This combination of language proficiency, translation practice, and cultural and literary study prepares graduates for careers in teaching, translation, publishing, and other fields where fluent English and cross-cultural knowledge are valued, as well as further study in philology, linguistics, or education.
