About Master in M1 Développement durable

Sustainability and development are tightly linked—sustainable development is the core of the M1 Développement durable.

This master's programme brings together economic and social sciences, and natural sciences to address these complex issues. The interdisciplinary nature of the programme allows students to gain practical skills in economics, sociology, anthropology, methodology, and environmental science, providing them with a broad and robust base for their future careers. The programme is tied to the research themes of the renowned laboratories of Université Paris-Saclay, where economic and interdisciplinary studies are at the forefront of research into social inequalities and environmental degradation.

The M1 Développement durable prepares students to transition into the M2 programmes in Science de la durabilité and Science politique.

The programme's curriculum is organized into four competency blocks: mobilizing specialized knowledge in sustainable development, contributing to the implementation of sustainable principles in professional contexts, analyzing sustainability issues, and developing solutions and recommendations aligned with sustainable development objectives. The aim of the programme is to enable students to effectively support collective action for sustainable development. The programme includes a stage or research memory for those who wish to continue their studies or enter the workforce with research experience.

While students can choose from a variety of modules, some examples include

    • Economie du développement 2,
    • Science de la durabilité 1, and
    • Economie de l'environnement.

The programme is taught in French on the Orsay, Sceaux, and Guyancourt campuses, although some courses include English materials. The programme is coordinated by Jean-Paul VANDERLINDEN and Jean-Paul Maréchal.

This M1 Développement durable is accredited by Université Paris-Saclay, and is a prerequisite for the M2 programmes in Science de la durabilité and Science politique.

The duration of the programme is one year, full-time.
