The MA in Serial Storytelling is a four-semester programme focused on collaborative writing for television and digital series, covering both local and international series markets. Students develop story development skills, learn collaborative writing techniques in a Writers' Room format, and engage with artistic research methods. The programme covers series dramaturgy, character development, collaborative writing processes, transnational markets, and new media platforms and distribution channels. Over the four semesters, students develop four to five series projects in different formats, including a complete drama series produced within a Writers' Room led by a professional showrunner. The programme places considerable emphasis on soft skills such as pitching, networking, and negotiating, alongside individual and collaborative screenwriting. The final semester includes the Master's thesis. Students work alongside industry partners and have opportunities to connect with international series festivals. The programme requires students to have basic training in screenwriting and dramaturgy prior to admission; those who lack this background may complete an ifs summer school before the programme starts. It runs over four semesters starting in the winter semester at ifs Internationale Filmschule Köln in Köln, Germany.
