Marine Environmental Engineering at Gyeongsang National University, in Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, is a doctoral program focused on protecting and managing the marine environment through engineering approaches. Students in this field typically study water quality monitoring, pollution control, coastal ecosystem management, and the technologies used to treat or prevent contamination of ocean and coastal waters. Doctoral research often involves assessing the impact of industrial, agricultural, or urban activity on marine ecosystems, and developing engineering solutions to reduce environmental harm or restore degraded habitats. Because Korea depends heavily on its coastline for fishing, shipping, and tourism, this research area has direct relevance to national environmental policy and industry practice. Candidates work toward a dissertation that offers new insight into marine pollution control, coastal engineering, or environmental monitoring systems. Career paths for graduates include roles in environmental engineering firms, government agencies overseeing marine and coastal protection, research institutes studying ocean environments, and academic positions teaching environmental or marine engineering. Instruction in the program is delivered in English, which makes it accessible to international students alongside domestic candidates. The doctoral track runs for two years, admitting students in both the spring and autumn semesters, and is designed for those who already hold a master's degree and are ready to pursue independent research into the engineering challenges facing marine and coastal environments.
