Master in Maritime Operations

Emden, Germany Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

The Master's programme in Maritime Operations at the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer is a joint degree offered with the Stord/Haugesund University College in Norway, combining ship technology and maritime operations with management and leadership training. The first semester, taught in Haugesund, covers philosophy of science and research methods, safety and human factors, and modern ship design with a focus on safety and hazards. The second semester, in Leer, addresses maritime computational fluid dynamics, cost accounting, ship propulsion systems, and tools for optimisation and simulation. The third semester offers two profiles: Sustainable Maritime Operations taught in Leer, or Maritime Technology and Management taught in Haugesund. The fourth semester is dedicated to the Master's thesis. Across the four semesters, the programme builds both specialised technical knowledge and the methodological, social, and intercultural competencies that management roles in the maritime sector require. The programme develops analytical and decision-making skills alongside leadership and personal development. Intercultural competence is reinforced through the mandatory period at the partner institution. The programme starts in the winter semester and is based at the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer, with the maritime studies faculty located in Leer, Germany.
