Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages, located in southern Taiwan, offers a Master Degree Program in English for students seeking graduate-level study of the English language, its literature, and its use in professional and academic contexts. As a discipline, English studies at the graduate level typically covers areas such as English linguistics, literary analysis, applied linguistics, and language teaching methodology, depending on a program's specific focus. Students often study the structure and history of the English language alongside literary works from different periods and regions, developing skills in close reading, critical analysis, and academic writing. Many graduate English programs also address applied areas such as translation, second language acquisition, or the teaching of English as a foreign language, reflecting the practical demand for English expertise in education, business, and international communication. Coursework frequently includes seminars requiring students to research and present on specific texts, linguistic phenomena, or teaching approaches, building both subject knowledge and skills in scholarly argumentation. Applicants to this type of program typically hold an undergraduate degree in English, applied linguistics, education, or a related humanities field. Graduates with a master's degree in English pursue career paths in education, teaching English at secondary or higher education levels, as well as roles in translation, editing, and publishing that require advanced command of the language. Others move into corporate roles involving international communication, content development, or training, where strong English language skills are valued, while some continue to doctoral study in English or applied linguistics. The program is delivered through instruction in English, allowing international students to study language and literature while immersed in an English-medium academic environment in southern Taiwan.
