Master Genie Civil

For Master Genie Civil, tuition fees are 250 EUR per year.

Master Genie Civil is offered by Université Claude Bernard - Lyon 1 in Villeurbanne, France, as a two-year master's degree taught in French, with tuition set at EUR 250 per year and a start date in September. Civil engineering studies the design, construction, and maintenance of the built environment, encompassing structures such as buildings, bridges, roads, dams, and water and sewage systems. Students in this field typically work through course sequences covering structural mechanics, materials science, geotechnics, hydraulics, and construction methods, alongside applied modules in project management, surveying, and regulatory codes governing safety and sustainability. Many programs also introduce students to digital modeling tools used to plan and simulate infrastructure projects before construction begins. Because civil engineering intersects with public policy, environmental concerns, and urban development, coursework often extends into topics such as energy efficiency in buildings, resilient design against natural hazards, and the renovation of aging infrastructure. Graduates of civil engineering programs commonly move into roles as structural engineers, site engineers, project managers, or technical consultants within construction firms, engineering consultancies, and public infrastructure agencies. Others pursue specialized paths in geotechnical engineering, transportation planning, or environmental engineering, while some continue toward doctoral research in structural or materials engineering. The field rewards a combination of technical rigor and practical problem-solving, since projects must satisfy safety standards, budget constraints, and environmental regulations simultaneously. Because instruction for this program is delivered in French, applicants should be comfortable following technical coursework and communicating with peers and instructors in that language throughout their studies in Villeurbanne.
