Master Histoire — Agrégation d'Histoire

Tuition fees for Master Histoire — Agrégation d'Histoire are 250 EUR per year.

Sorbonne Université's Agrégation d'Histoire track within the Master Histoire program, in Paris, France, is oriented toward preparation for a French competitive examination for teaching positions in history, rather than a single thematic specialization within the discipline. As such, it draws broadly across the field of history, covering political, social, cultural, and economic history across multiple periods, from antiquity through the contemporary era, since candidates for such examinations are expected to demonstrate command of a wide historical syllabus. Students in this track typically engage in intensive work on source analysis, historiography, and the construction of structured historical arguments in written and oral form, alongside close study of the specific historical questions set for the examination in a given year. The training builds on the core skills common to history education: interpreting primary sources, situating events in long-term context, and engaging with scholarly debate, but with particular attention to the exam format itself, including timed written composition and oral presentation. Graduates who complete this kind of track typically move into secondary or higher education teaching, since the underlying examination is designed to certify history teachers, while others use the broad historical training for roles in publishing, archives, or further doctoral research. This is a two-year master's degree taught in French at a university based in Paris. The program begins in September, with tuition set at 250 EUR per year, matching standard public master's tuition in France. Applicants should have strong, broad historical training and be prepared for a demanding, examination-focused course of study.
