    About Master i idrettsmedisin

For Master i idrettsmedisin, applications close 2027-04-15; tuition is 180,000 NOK per year.

Master i idrettsmedisin (MAIM) is a two-year, 120-ECTS specialisation master's programme in which students specialise in physical activity and health. The field is interdisciplinary, and the degree trains graduates in critical reflection across the relationship between physical activity and disease; the incidence and causes of certain health problems linked to participation in sport; and the implementation and evaluation of physical activity in public-health work.

The programme aims to give knowledge and skills relevant to the practice of physical activity and sport generally, the use of physical activity in preventive and health-promoting work, and treatment and rehabilitation at various levels within and outside the healthcare system, with particular emphasis on critical thinking about the theory and research underlying choices of measurement methods, training methods, activity type and dosage in preventing and treating lifestyle disease and sport-related health problems.

The first year consists of methods courses and academic seminars (60 ECTS combined). The second year is either a 60-ECTS master's thesis, or a combination of exchange or work-oriented project work/internship (30 ECTS) and a 30-ECTS master's thesis; the work-oriented project can be organised as practical project work in the public or private health service, testing laboratories, the fitness-centre industry, healthy-life centres, or internally at the department. Teaching varies by course, alternating between lectures, student presentations, peer feedback, problem-based learning, project work, group work with and without supervision, discussion groups, self-study and independent academic work.
