Master Lettres

At Université de Picardie Jules-Verne, tuition fees are 250 EUR per year.

The Master Lettres, or Master's in Literature, at Université de Picardie Jules-Verne in Amiens, France, is a graduate program centered on the close study of literary texts. Programs of this kind typically cover literary history, literary theory and criticism, and the detailed analysis of works spanning different periods, genres, and sometimes languages. Students learn to situate texts within their historical and cultural context, apply critical frameworks to interpret meaning and form, and produce sustained written argument about literature, often culminating in a substantial research paper or thesis. Depending on the specific focus, coursework may range across poetry, the novel, theater, and other literary forms, and may also touch on comparative literature or the relationship between literature and other arts. The training develops strong skills in close reading, written expression, and independent research, which are valued well beyond academic settings. Graduates commonly go on to careers in teaching, publishing and editing, journalism, cultural administration, library and archival work, or further doctoral study aimed at academic research. Others apply the writing and analytical skills developed in a literature degree to communications, content, or editorial roles in a variety of industries. The subject appeals to students with a strong interest in reading widely and writing with precision, and it rewards patience with close textual analysis. This is a master's-level program lasting two years, taught in French, with an intake expected in September. The estimated yearly tuition is two hundred fifty euros. A high level of French reading and writing ability is essential, since the coursework is built almost entirely around literary texts and criticism in that language.
