Master Mathematiques Appliquees, Statistique

At Université Claude Bernard - Lyon 1, tuition fees are 250 EUR per year.

The Master Mathematiques Appliquees, Statistique at Université Claude Bernard - Lyon 1, based in Villeurbanne, France, provides advanced training in applied mathematics and statistics. This field covers the theoretical and computational tools used to model uncertainty, analyze data, and solve quantitative problems across science, industry, and finance. Typical coursework includes probability theory, statistical inference, stochastic processes, numerical methods, optimization, and data analysis using statistical software and programming languages. Students often specialize further in areas such as biostatistics, financial mathematics, actuarial methods, or machine learning, depending on the structure of the program, and they learn to translate real-world problems into mathematical models that can be analyzed and solved. The discipline sits at the intersection of pure mathematics, computer science, and the applied sciences, and graduates are expected to be comfortable with both theoretical reasoning and practical computation. Career paths commonly include data analyst, statistician, actuary, quantitative analyst in banking or insurance, and research or engineering roles in sectors that rely heavily on data, such as pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, and industry. Some graduates continue into doctoral research in mathematics or statistics. The program is taught entirely in French over two years, with an inferred start date in September, so a strong command of French is necessary to follow lectures and coursework. Yearly tuition is 250 EUR. Located in Villeurbanne, part of the greater Lyon area in France, the degree is aimed at students who already hold an undergraduate background in mathematics or a related quantitative field and want to deepen their expertise in applied statistical and mathematical methods.
