About the Program

The MA in Development Studies at Friedensau Adventist University focuses on global justice and the realities of the international development and humanitarian aid sector. The programme covers theories of development, poverty analysis, development economics, project planning, and empirical research methods, and situates these within a critical perspective on global power relations and post-colonial critiques of development. Students must complete an internship in development cooperation or humanitarian aid. The programme also offers three concentrations: Migration, Displacement and Development; Gender, Intersectionality and Development; and Sustainability and Resource Use. Electives cover additional areas including monitoring and evaluation, human rights, international peace and conflict, childhood and child rights, religion and development, disaster response, and global public health. The programme runs over four semesters and includes a research-oriented Master's thesis. A practical training component of eight weeks' duration is required. The programme starts in the winter semester, with applications from EU students due by 31 August and non-EU students by 31 March. It is based at Friedensau Adventist University in Möckern, Germany.
