Graduates typically take up roles such as mining engineer, project manager or consultant within the resources sector, joining companies like BHP, Rio Tinto or specialist engineering firms, and many also progress to chartered status with Engineers Australia. The programme deepens understanding of how geological, mechanical and environmental factors intersect in mineral extraction, addressing challenges of safety, efficiency and sustainability. A distinctive feature of this course is the 12-week hands-on industry placement – either in Australia or overseas – integrated with specialised subjects such as mine planning, occupational health and safety, mine water, ocean engineering, geostatistics and environmental impact, giving direct exposure to real-world mining operations.
