About the Program

The Master of Science in Environmental Engineering at the Technical University of Munich trains engineers to address environmental protection with a forward-looking perspective. The programme emphasises water, soil, infrastructure, and cross-cutting methods, and treats sustainability and impact-oriented engineering as central concerns. The programme runs over four semesters and can begin in either the winter or summer semester. Students choose two of eleven fields of study at the start of the first semester, defining their specialisation profile. The fields available are Urban Water Engineering, Water Resources Management, Hydraulic Engineering, Hydrogeology and Groundwater and Geothermal Energy, Modelling and Measurement of Flow and Transport, Resource Efficiency in Urban Planning, Environmental Geotechnics, Environmental Hazards and Risk, Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning, Transportation Engineering and Control, and Water-Energy-Food Nexus. A common block on Cross Cutting Methods, Technologies and Fundamentals runs across the first three semesters, covering environmental data acquisition, processing, and modelling, laboratory skills, and software use. An applied study project is also completed during this period. The fourth semester is devoted to the Master's thesis.
