Master of Sociology

Fujairah University offers a Master of Sociology, a graduate program that examines how societies are organized, how social relationships form, and how institutions such as family, education, religion and the state shape human behavior. As a discipline, sociology at the master's level typically builds on foundational theory with more advanced study of social stratification, culture, urbanization, migration, social change and research methodology, including both qualitative approaches such as interviews and ethnography and quantitative approaches such as survey analysis. Students often complete a research project or thesis, applying sociological theory and methods to a specific social issue or population, which gives them practical experience designing and conducting original research. The field also frequently touches on applied areas such as social policy, community development, gender studies and organizational behavior, since sociological analysis is widely used to understand and address real social problems. Because sociology examines the structures underlying everyday life, graduates of this program are prepared for a range of careers, including social research, policy analysis, community and social development work, human resources, and roles within government, nonprofit and international organizations. The analytical and research skills developed in sociology are also transferable to journalism, education and further academic study at the doctoral level.
