Master Philosophie — PHILOSOPHIE

Tuition comes to 250 EUR per year.

Université Jean Moulin - Lyon 3, located in Lyon, France, offers this master's program in Philosophie, a discipline devoted to the systematic study of fundamental questions concerning existence, knowledge, ethics, reason, and value. At the graduate level, philosophy programs typically involve close reading and critical analysis of major philosophical texts and traditions, spanning areas such as metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, political philosophy, logic, and the history of philosophy from antiquity through the contemporary period. Students develop skills in constructing and evaluating arguments, writing rigorous analytical essays, and engaging with complex abstract concepts, often specializing within a particular area or philosophical tradition as they progress through the program. Seminars and coursework generally emphasize close textual engagement, structured debate, and independent research, culminating in a substantial written thesis that demonstrates the ability to develop and defend an original philosophical argument. While philosophy is often associated with careers in academic research and teaching, the analytical, writing, and critical-thinking skills it develops are broadly transferable, and graduates pursue paths including secondary and higher education teaching, publishing and editorial work, public policy and administration, journalism, and roles in organizations that value rigorous argumentation and ethical analysis. Some students continue toward doctoral study aimed at academic research careers. The program is taught in French over two years, with an anticipated start in September, and leads to a master's degree carrying a yearly tuition of 250 EUR.
