Freie Universität Berlin

Master's in Global History

Berlin, Germany Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

The Master's in Global History at Freie Universität Berlin is dedicated to studying cross-border entanglements across the globe from a non-Eurocentric perspective. Rather than treating global history as an extension of imperial or economic history, the programme focuses on comparisons, connections, and processes of global integration, examining how migration and trade, empires, religion, environment, ideas, communication, and conflict have linked different parts of the world over time. The programme combines historical skills with the competences of area studies. All students take courses in Global History that address the theory and methodology of writing global history. Part-time study is possible. The programme runs over four semesters starting in the winter semester and is a joint degree offered by Freie Universität Berlin and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin in Berlin.
