📚 About the Program

Bioengineering aims to integrate the Engineering disciplines with the fundamental notions of Molecular and Cellular Biology, Pharmacology and Physiology to design, develop and produce tools and devices to be used in the Medical and Clinical fields for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Bioengineering, thanks to the many and significant scientific and technological advancements, has the potential to revolutionize Medicine and Health in general, thanks to the creation of highly efficient, reliable and widespread devices. However, in order to enable this, it is necessary to refer to professional figures who guide the translation from labs to the industrial field, i.e. figures who possess solid and robust skills in Industrial and Process Engineering, necessary for the design, development and production of complex devices. The Master’s Degree Course in Industrial Bioengineering aims to train professionals with multidisciplinary knowledge, in which fundamental knowledge consisting of the classical disciplines of Industrial Engineering (such as mechanics, thermodynamics, transport properties) is integrated with skills in Biochemistry, Molecular and Cellular Biology and Systems Biology. With this in mind, graduates in Industrial Bioengineering possess the necessary tools to make a significant and active contribution in the fields of Regenerative Medicine, Nanomedicine and Advanced Diagnostics through the design and fabrication of medical devices capable of interacting directly with living systems, such as biomolecules and cells (for diagnostics and therapy) as well as tissues and organs (for repair and regeneration). For example, the graduate in Industrial Bioengineering possesses skills and knowledge on the design of devices for molecular diagnostics, for the production of vectors for the controlled release of drugs, for the fabrication of prostheses and scaffolds for tissue regeneration and for the engineering of processes and devices for cell and tissue culture.
