Masters Programme In Design

The tuition fee is 20,000 EUR per year.

Design serves as both a cultural practice and a strategic tool for navigating the complexities of our changing world. The Master’s Programme in Design at Aalto University situates students at the intersection of material innovation, social responsibility, and aesthetic inquiry, providing a rigorous intellectual framework for those seeking to redefine the boundaries of their craft.

This programme is intended for creative practitioners who wish to deepen their expertise through one of three distinct disciplinary lenses:

• Collaborative and Industrial Design (CoID): Focusing on the human-centered and systemic aspects of product and service development.
• Contemporary Design (CoDe): Emphasizing critical exploration, artistic research, and the conceptual potential of design.
• Fashion, Clothing and Textile Design (FaCT): Exploring the intersection of material science, cultural identity, and sustainable production.

A Transdisciplinary Ecosystem

What distinguishes this programme is its cross-pollination with the Master’s Programmes in Creative Sustainability and International Design Business Management. Students are encouraged to look beyond their specific major, participating in joint departmental studies that foster a holistic understanding of the field. By integrating personal study plans with collaborative projects, the curriculum ensures that graduates are not only skilled designers but also reflective practitioners prepared for the challenges of contemporary design industries.
