The International Multidisciplinary Engineering (IME) Graduate Program（Master degree course）

The tuition fee is 535,800 JPY per year.

Mechanical Engineering at The University of Tokyo is offered as an English-taught master's program in Tokyo, Japan, with a duration of two years and start dates in April or October. The University of Tokyo, Japan's oldest national university, founded in 1877, organizes its research and teaching across ten faculties and fifteen graduate schools and enrolls students from many countries and regions. This program covers core areas of mechanical engineering, including mechanics, thermodynamics, materials, manufacturing, and design, along with applications in robotics, energy systems, and precision engineering, combining coursework with a supervised research project. Master's students typically work with faculty on design or research projects, depending on their area of interest, while developing skills in analysis, simulation, and experimental methods that may be extended into doctoral study. Mechanical engineering underpins industries such as automotive and transportation, robotics, manufacturing, and energy, and master's graduates commonly move into roles in engineering and manufacturing companies, research institutions, or continue to doctoral research. The two-year program structure allows students to build a foundation in mechanical engineering theory and methods before completing a research project or thesis. The two possible start dates, April and October, give applicants flexibility in planning their admission. English-medium instruction supports international students who wish to study mechanical engineering in Japan, working alongside faculty and peers from many countries and regions. As part of a large national university, the program connects master's students to extensive engineering research facilities and contact with related departments across the physical sciences and engineering.
