Marmara University

Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering

İstanbul, Turkey Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

Mechanical Engineering is one of the broadest engineering disciplines, concerned with the design, analysis, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems ranging from small components to large machinery. The field draws on principles of physics and mathematics, applying them to areas such as statics and dynamics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and materials science. Typical coursework covers machine design, manufacturing processes, control systems, and heat transfer, giving students a foundation that applies across industries including automotive, aerospace, energy, and consumer products. Laboratory work is a core part of the discipline, with students testing materials, analyzing mechanical behavior, and building prototypes to understand how theoretical principles translate into physical performance. Computer-aided design and simulation tools are commonly introduced, allowing students to model and refine designs before physical production, which has become standard practice across the mechanical engineering profession. As students progress, many programs offer opportunities to specialize in areas such as robotics, energy systems, automotive engineering, or manufacturing technology, reflecting the wide range of career paths available to mechanical engineers. Design projects, often completed in teams, require students to apply multiple areas of knowledge to solve open-ended engineering problems, mirroring the collaborative nature of engineering practice in industry. Analytical thinking, attention to precision, and practical problem-solving are emphasized throughout the curriculum. Graduates typically pursue careers as design engineers, manufacturing engineers, project engineers, or research and development specialists, and some continue into graduate study focused on specialized mechanical or energy systems. This program is taught in English over 4 years at Marmara University in Istanbul, Turkey.
