Mechanical Engineering is one of the broadest engineering disciplines, concerned with the design, analysis, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems ranging from small components to large machinery. The field draws on principles of physics and mathematics, applying them to areas such as statics and dynamics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and materials science. Typical coursework covers machine design, manufacturing processes, control systems, and heat transfer, giving students a foundation that applies across industries including automotive, aerospace, energy, and consumer products. Laboratory work is a core part of the discipline, with students testing materials, analyzing mechanical behavior, and building prototypes to understand how theoretical principles translate into physical performance. Computer-aided design and simulation tools are commonly introduced, allowing students to model and refine designs before physical production, which has become standard practice across the mechanical engineering profession.
