Medicine and Surgery is a six-year program taught in English at HUMANITAS University in Pieve Emanuele, Italy, leading to a qualification that combines undergraduate and clinical training in a single integrated course, as is standard in the Italian medical education system. The discipline covers the full scope of human medicine, beginning with foundational sciences such as anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and pharmacology, and progressing into clinical training across specialties including internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, psychiatry, obstetrics and gynecology, and public health. Students typically spend the early years of the program building scientific and diagnostic foundations before moving into supervised clinical placements in hospital and outpatient settings. Medical education of this kind emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and practical clinical skills, with an increasing focus throughout the program on patient interaction, diagnostic reasoning, and hands-on procedures under supervision. Subjects commonly studied include microbiology, pathology, radiology, clinical medicine, and surgical techniques, alongside training in medical ethics and communication with patients. Graduates of medicine and surgery programs are prepared to pursue further specialization through postgraduate residency training in a chosen medical or surgical field, a step generally required before independent practice. Career paths following this course of study lead into clinical medicine, surgery, and related specialties, as well as roles in medical research, public health, and academic medicine. Because the program is delivered in English, it is designed for an international student body seeking a European medical education pathway with the intention of practicing in Italy or elsewhere, subject to the licensing requirements of the relevant country. The location in Pieve Emanuele, near Milano, places students within a broader Italian healthcare and hospital network relevant to their clinical training.
