The MSc in Non-Destructive Testing at Dresden International University covers the scientific and technical foundations required to assess the integrity of materials and components without causing damage. The curriculum opens with fundamental disciplines including material science, measurement techniques, mechanics, numerical methods and signal processing, and quality management. Students develop an understanding of metallic, polymer, and composite materials alongside the behaviour of elastic and electromagnetic waves within different material structures. The second semester shifts to the full range of NDT methods: acoustic techniques such as ultrasonic excitation and phased array monitoring, electromagnetic methods covering eddy current and microwave testing, radiological methods, optical and thermographic methods, and thermal and microscopical approaches. This progression from foundations to methods is deliberate, with modules running consecutively as blocks throughout the programme. The third semester is devoted to a basic course with the German Society for NDT (DGZfP) and a research placement at a recognised institution, which may include BAM Berlin, Fraunhofer affiliates, or partner companies and universities. The fourth and final semester is dedicated to the Master's thesis, typically carried out at the institution where the placement was completed.
