The Online MSc Wind Energy Systems at the University of Kassel is a part-time, distance-learning programme covering a broad range of technical and non-technical aspects of wind energy. Students choose from 28 modules, beginning with fundamental content on the electrical and mechanical components of wind turbines, the electrical engineering principles behind them, and simulation tools including MATLAB and OPEN FOAM. Building on the fundamentals, the programme offers two specialisation paths. The Energy System Technology (EST) track covers nacelle system design, turbine control and operational management, grid integration of renewable energies, energy storage, and energy meteorology. The Simulation and Structural Technology (SST) track addresses rotor blade design, soil material behaviour for turbine siting, flow field identification, and aerodynamic analysis. Non-engineering modules covering management skills for wind farm construction and legal topics such as Contract Law and Energy Law are also part of the curriculum. Graduates are prepared for roles in the wind industry, including research and development departments at wind power manufacturers and at planning and project development firms.
