About Master in Paleobiology

At University of Opole, the tuition fee is 7,200 PLN per year.

The Master's program in Palaeobiology at the University of Opole is run by the European Centre of Palaeobiology within the Faculty of Natural and Technical Sciences and taught in English over four semesters, with an annual tuition fee of 5000 PLN. It draws on research from the Laboratory of Palaeobiology and Evolution, part of the Chair of Biosystematics, and opened as a new international programme in 2017. Students on the program have the opportunity to conduct research using material collected in the Opole area, including Carboniferous ichnofossils and plant remains, Triassic vertebrate and invertebrate fossils, and Middle Jurassic and Upper Cretaceous fauna that is mainly marine but also includes some plant remains. Since January 2016 the European Centre of Palaeontology has been linked with partners in Belgium, Germany, and Portugal, giving scope for further scientific cooperation, and the program states it welcomes students who bring their own material, ideas, or research questions. The curriculum also includes courses oriented toward newer trends in tourism connected to palaeontology, such as geological and palaeontological parks. The Department of Biosystematics contributes broad experience in biology, while the Laboratory of Palaeobiology and Evolution has offered palaeobiological courses for fifteen years, building on the discovery of the Triassic site at Krasiejów, a village near Opole. Palaeobiology as a field combines geology, evolutionary biology, and fieldwork-based fossil study, preparing graduates for research careers in palaeontology, museum and heritage work, or further doctoral study. Opole's location gives students direct access to fossil sites used in the program's own research and teaching.
