PhD in Ph.D. in Epidemiology

The Ph.D. in Epidemiology program features a two-year coursework requirement in epidemiology and biostatistics methods, followed by two or more years of research. Students apply epidemiologic methods to understand complex public health problems and gain expertise necessary for a research career in academia, government, industry, and research institutions. Students must pass a written qualifying exam and complete and defend a research dissertation.

The School of Public Health encourages its Ph.D. students to participate in research projects that advance the field of epidemiology and address current public health issues. Faculty and students conduct research in a wide range of public health areas, supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Qualified students benefit from Graduate Assistant (GA) positions for the first two years, which include a monthly stipend, health insurance, and a tuition waiver, along with opportunities for additional funding.
