Introduction

UiT The Arctic University of Norway, located in Tromsø, is the world's northernmost university and a specialist center for Arctic knowledge. Established by parliament in 1968, UiT enrolls around 16,000 students with a strong international cohort and combines classical academic disciplines with regionally focused research in polar environment, climate science, indigenous studies, telemedicine, marine biology and fisheries science.

As a founding member of the University of the Arctic network, UiT maintains extensive global partnerships and around 200 international agreements that support student exchange, joint research and fieldwork. The university's study portfolio spans health sciences, humanities, social sciences, technology, arts and professional programs, and is distinguished by hands-on research opportunities in the High North that allow students to study pressing global issues such as climate change, resource management and Arctic governance up close.

Campus life reflects the unique environment of northern Norway, combining modern facilities, strong research infrastructure and support services for international students, including guidance on funding, housing and integration. Students benefit from interdisciplinary learning, access to Arctic research centers and a community oriented to outdoor fieldwork and multicultural engagement. UiT is a compelling choice for students interested in environment-focused research, indigenous issues and applied sciences in an international Arctic setting.
