Imagine dissecting real X-ray data collected by the XMM-Newton observatory to unlock the mysteries of cosmic sources. This programme bridges the gap between foundational physics and the rapidly evolving field of modern astronomy, moving beyond theory to help you understand how multi-wavelength observations are reshaping our view of the universe.

Designed for those who possess a deep curiosity about how the universe functions, this course ensures you gain more than just academic knowledge. You will develop practical competencies in programming, statistical data analysis, and advanced observational techniques. The curriculum balances rigorous lecture-based learning with significant hands-on lab sessions, all while cultivating the soft skills—such as independent problem-solving and team-based communication—that make graduates highly versatile in both scientific and commercial sectors.

Real-World Integration

A distinctive feature of the programme is the third-year INTRA work placement, which places you within scientific or industrial organisations to apply your skills in real-world contexts. Whether you aim to pursue research in astrophysics, work in high-tech image processing, or enter the medical physics industry, this degree provides a robust, career-oriented path.
