Master in Planning (MPlan)

At Dalhousie University, applications are due January 15 (early consideration), March 1 (international), April 15 (domestic).

Graduates of the Master of Planning move into roles such as planner and urban designer, real-estate advisor, project manager, strategic transport planner or community development planner, often within public, private or nonprofit organisations. Successful completion also allows entry to Candidate membership with provincial planning bodies, the first step toward professional registration in Canada.

Students spend each week in collaborative studios and seminars, applying theory to community-based projects, and in the second year undertake two substantial research projects – one individual and one team-based. A three-month co-op work term in the third semester blends classroom learning with professional practice. Core study areas include planning studios, planning law, history and theory, and professional practice and methods, providing a balanced combination of analytical and hands-on experience.
