Pre-school education: Music profile

Malmo University is a public university in Malmo, Sweden. It was founded in 1998 and is one of the youngest universities in Sweden. The university has over 25,000 students and 3,000 staff members. As a preschool teacher, you have a creative and important job of supporting the very youngest in their development. If you want to be part of laying the foundation for children's lifelong learning together with future colleagues, preschool education is right for you. The pre-school teacher education with a music profile is unique in the country. The training is aimed partly at those who are less musically experienced and who would like to learn, partly at those who have experience of playing music and want to develop their skills in music in relation to a preschool teacher role. In the education, you study courses on, for example, childhood, care and educational leadership, which is interspersed with music making. You train to teach, among other things in music, and you do several concerts and performances for and with children during your education. The music profile includes studies such as: Own music making based on singing, playing instruments (with a focus on guitar) and movement Music didactics, such as planning, implementing, documenting and reflecting on music lessons in preschool Music making and songwriting Music as a medium for language, mathematics and science-oriented content Music education research that is significant for the preschool teaching profession The preschool teacher education includes work-based education, VFU (practice), for a total of 30 higher education credits. Already during the first semester, you have activity-based education at a preschool, where you are then placed for the entire education. We have a collaboration with a music preschool in Hamburg, Finkenau , where you have the opportunity to go during your VFU term semester four. As a student, you have many opportunities to study abroad, because Malmö University has agreements with partner universities all over the world. In the pre-school teacher education, you can apply for exchange studies in semester five. At Malmö University, there are three versions of pre-school teacher training: Pre-school teacher training, Pre-school teacher training with a music profile and Flexible variant.
