Preliminary Course

The Preliminary Course at the Dutch National Ballet Academy is designed for aspiring dancers aged ten and above. This preparatory program lasts seven to eight years, aligning with primary and secondary education in the Netherlands. Students receive a comprehensive education that combines regular schooling with intensive dance training, preparing them for a professional ballet career.

Throughout the course, students engage in daily classical dance technique lessons, along with specialized training in pointe work, jumping techniques, and strength training. They also participate in performances with the Dutch National Ballet, gaining valuable stage experience. The curriculum is structured to ensure that students develop the necessary skills and artistry required for advanced ballet training.

Graduates of the Preliminary Course can audition for the Associate Degree in Classical Ballet, which opens doors to various career paths in dance. Potential job titles include ballet dancer, dance instructor, and choreographer. The skills acquired during this program are transferable to numerous roles within the performing arts, making it an excellent foundation for a future in dance.
