    Introduction

Brooklyn Law School is entering its 125th anniversary year, building on a long tradition of legal education in Brooklyn. Incoming students begin their studies through Convocation, joining a school community located in Downtown Brooklyn. The campus sits in the heart of the neighborhood, with tours and information sessions available for prospective students.

Academic pathways include flexible J.D. programs, an LL.M. for lawyers trained abroad, and course offerings across a broad range of subjects. Students can develop practical skills through the Clinical Program, which includes clinics and externships. The curriculum gives particular attention to practical training, business law, and real estate law, with options designed to support careers across legal fields and beyond.

International students considering Brooklyn Law School can explore the LL.M. program as a route for connecting with international professionals after completing legal training abroad. J.D. applicants can choose among flexible program options and review the school's course offerings, clinics, and externships. The Downtown Brooklyn location places students in a central New York City setting, while admissions counselors meet prospective students at law school fairs around the country. Visitors can also sign up for campus tours and information sessions to learn more about studying at Brooklyn Law School.

    About the Program

This programme is designed for lawyers trained outside the United States who wish to study U.S. law and prepare for the New York State bar exam. Students engage in classroom study of American legal principles, including mandatory courses in Fundamentals of American Law and Legal Writing & Research. The curriculum emphasizes practical legal skills through structured coursework and opportunities for hands-on experience in clinics and externships.

Focus areas include Business Law, Immigration and Refugee Law, Intellectual Property, Media, and Information Law.

The programme requires 24 credits of coursework, including two mandatory courses. Students must complete at least 15 credits in Business Law, 10 credits in Immigration and Refugee Law, or 15 credits in Intellectual Property, Media, and Information Law to earn a specialization certificate. All credits must be earned in classroom-based courses.

Graduates pursue careers as attorneys in private practice, corporate legal departments, government agencies, and non-profit organizations, particularly in areas related to their specialization.

Applicants must hold a first degree in law from an accredited foreign university equivalent to a U.S. law school. They must also meet English proficiency requirements with a minimum TOEFL iBT score of 95 (or 5 before January 21, 2026), IELTS 7.0, or Duolingo 120. Applications are submitted through LSAC, except for Duolingo scores.

The programme totals about 24 credit hours. Full-time study takes one year; part-time study takes a minimum of one and a half years. All courses are on-campus and require classroom attendance. Evening courses are available but not all courses are offered in the evening. For international students, tuition is well above the median for US programmes.
