Master in Road Traffic Engineering

Road Traffic Engineering is a master's programme focused on equipping engineers to design and operate road transport systems for the future. It addresses the increasing pressure on road infrastructure through intelligent transport systems, big data communication between vehicles and infrastructure, and the principles of autonomous driving. The programme also covers highway design and traffic infrastructure assessment, recognising that sound planning is a prerequisite for advanced mobility solutions. Structured over 4 semesters starting in the winter semester, the first three semesters concentrate on intelligent road transport systems, traffic flow optimisation, vehicle-road and vehicle-vehicle interaction, planning and designing road traffic facilities, traffic simulation, and language and intercultural competence. The fourth semester is devoted to the Master's project, an 18-week research thesis carried out primarily in cooperation with a company or other external partner. Students have access to university laboratories throughout the programme. The programme includes an international dimension, with language training built into the curriculum to prepare graduates for projects that cross national borders. It is offered as an integrated international programme, with a forthcoming double degree arrangement with the Czech Technical University in Prague. The programme is delivered at Westsächsische Hochschule Zwickau in Zwickau, Germany.
