Each week you will combine classroom learning with practical activities such as role-play simulations, group discussions and reflective journals, while building the skills needed for professional social care practice. Role-play is used throughout to rehearse client interactions and ethical decision-making. From the start you will undertake a 13-week professional placement in Year 2 and another in Year 3, applying theory in real settings across Ireland; you will be expected to commute or relocate for these placements. In your final year you will complete a research project on a topic of your choice. The programme examines how individuals, families and communities experience care, exploring sociological, legal, psychological and policy perspectives that shape practice. Study is organised over four full-time years: Year 1 introduces core social sciences and professional foundations; Year 2 adds the first placement and deeper theory; Year 3 includes a second placement and advanced modules; Year 4 culminates in a research dissertation and an optional early exit award after three years. The curriculum also includes creative practice modules that develop communication and reflective skills, and successful completion of mandatory modules each semester leads to a total of 120 credits.
