Humber College offers a Social Service Worker (SSW) Program that provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to work in the social services sector. The program focuses on developing students’ understanding of social policy, current trends, and approaches to working with clients in a range of social service settings. Through a combination of theory, practice and experiential learning opportunities, the program prepares students to work as effective social service workers in diverse and changing social service systems. The curriculum includes courses such as Introduction to Social Work, Human Rights and Social Justice, Social Work Practice, Social Program Planning and Evaluation, Mental Health and Addiction, and Research in Social Work. Students also have the opportunity to participate in field placements, providing them with the opportunity to apply their learning and gain valuable hands-on experience. Upon completion of the SSW program, graduates are prepared to work in a variety of social service settings, including community agencies, government departments, health care facilities, and more. Graduates of Humber College's SSW program have the skills to assume roles such as caseworker, crisis intervention worker, child and youth worker, and community outreach worker.
