The Master's programme in Social Work Research at Leuphana University Lüneburg is oriented toward academic and research careers in social work. The curriculum covers theories and methods of social work research, quantitative and qualitative empirical research, research ethics and academic integrity, project management in research settings, academic writing and presentation, and preparation for teaching and self-administration in academia. The four-semester programme, starting in the winter semester, is structured to introduce research practice progressively. The first semester combines critical review of current research, methods training, and participation in a collaborative research project with external partners. The second semester centres on a university-based research internship and a module on research ethics. The third semester introduces university teaching in social work, addresses current discourses in the field, and develops science communication skills. The fourth semester is dedicated to the Master's thesis. Students work in small research groups and participate in ongoing projects within the university or with partner institutions.
