    About Meredith College

Meredith College has educated women for 135 years. Its current campus on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh opened in January 1926, after the College moved from its original location to larger grounds outside the city. Six original Georgian-style buildings, including Johnson Hall, were completed for the Spring 1926 semester. Meredith is preparing a new strategic plan while continuing to build on its traditions and mission.

Undergraduate research is a central academic opportunity. Biology and chemistry students can pursue independent work in microbiology, including projects aimed at improving central line safety in healthcare. Academic programs also connect study with professional preparation. Dance students develop resumes and financial literacy early in their program, while English majors complete coursework on professional materials, interviewing, job leads, and internships. StrongPoints offers strengths-based coaching, workshops, and classroom sessions that help students connect their skills with academic work, leadership, career exploration, and workplace challenges. Health, Exercise, and Sport Sciences prepares students for paths including occupational therapy.

Raleigh provides the setting for Meredith's campus, while study abroad extends the student experience beyond North Carolina. More than a third of Meredith students study abroad through a range of options, including the College's permanent location in Sansepolcro, Italy. Scholarships and other funding are available to help make these programs affordable, giving international-minded students several ways to include overseas study in their education.
