Sociology at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore is a three-year bachelor's degree taught in English in Milano, Italy. Admission is by entrance examination, and a secondary school diploma is required of applicants. Sociology is the study of society, examining how social structures, institutions, and relationships shape human behaviour and how individuals and groups, in turn, shape society. Students typically study social theory, research methods, and substantive areas such as family, education, work, migration, and inequality, developing both a conceptual understanding of social phenomena and practical skills in social research. Coursework often includes quantitative and qualitative research methods, giving students experience designing studies, collecting data, and analyzing social trends. Sociology programmes commonly also address contemporary issues such as globalization, urbanization, and the effects of digital technology on social life, connecting theoretical frameworks to current social change. Because sociology draws on a wide range of methods and topics, students in this field generally develop transferable analytical and research skills applicable across many sectors. Graduates typically pursue careers in social research, public policy, non-governmental organizations, human resources, education, and market or social research roles in the private sector. Others continue into further graduate study in sociology or a related social science field. Milano, as one of Italy's largest and most diverse cities, offers a relevant social context for sociological study. Delivered in English, the bachelor's degree is designed for both Italian and international students who want a foundation in sociological theory and research methods, preparing them for further study or entry into fields that rely on social science analysis.
