About Master in Soil, Water and Environment

The application deadline for the Aug 2027 intake is Jan 15, 2027, while tuition fees for Master in Soil, Water and Environment are 364,000 SEK for the whole program.

This natural-science-oriented Master's programme covers the sustainable use of land and water resources, efficient use of natural resources and nutrients, and environmental assessment. SLU is the only university in Sweden offering a degree in soil science, and the programme leads to a Master's degree in either environmental science or soil science.

In the first year, students study soil physics, soil chemistry and soil biology, and environmental monitoring and assessment from Scandinavian and European perspectives. In the second year, students study how land use influences water quality and eutrophication, with electives in soil classification, land evaluation, soil and water conservation, and nutrient cycling in an international context. The programme concludes with a 30-credit degree project.

Graduates work as consultants or analysts in the public and private sectors, or continue to doctoral studies at SLU or elsewhere.
