Bachelor in Speech Communication and Rhetoric (Bachelor's)

Baker University has shaped higher education in Kansas since 1858, when it became the state’s first university. Liberal arts education remains central to the institution, alongside flexible learning designed for different stages of academic and professional life. Students who are unsure of their major can begin as undeclared students while exploring possible fields with guidance toward long-term goals. The university offers more than 50 programs through on-campus undergraduate study in Baldwin City, online undergraduate and graduate programs, continuing education, and an on-ground nursing BSN program in Topeka. Baker also provides opportunities to engage in student research and creative work, including the annual Scholars Symposium. Its campus experience is structured around connection, focus, leadership development, housing, and participation in more than 40 student organizations. Baldwin City is the setting for Baker’s main on-campus undergraduate experience. Students can combine academic work with athletics, where 27 programs connect competition with character, discipline, and leadership. Baker also offers online study for students seeking flexible, accelerated programs that fit around work or other responsibilities. International students should distinguish between the Baldwin City campus, the Topeka nursing location, and online programs when considering their study format and daily campus experience.
