STAR Alternative Health Care

The STAR Alternative Health Care course at UCOL is designed for secondary school learners who are interested in exploring the health sector. This program is ideal for students who enjoy helping others and want to gain foundational knowledge in health and wellbeing. The course is offered at UCOL campuses in Palmerston North, Whanganui, and Masterton, making it accessible to a wide range of students.

Over five weeks, students will attend classes one day per week, where they will learn about various health practices used in New Zealand, including the New Zealand Health Model of Te Whare Tapa Whā. This hands-on approach helps students develop essential skills and prepares them for further studies in health-related fields. The course comprises 5 credits, providing a solid introduction to the healthcare industry.

Graduates of the STAR Alternative Health Care course can pursue various pathways in the health industry, including roles in community health and self-employment opportunities. This course serves as a stepping stone for further studies, such as the Academy Health Level 3 or the New Zealand Certificate in Health & Wellbeing.
