Master in Sustainable Development

Applications for the Aug 2027 intake are due by Jan 15, 2027.

This interdisciplinary Master's programme, jointly created by Uppsala University and SLU, combines advanced theoretical and practical courses on natural resource use, society and the environment, and energy-water-food systems. Students come from more than twenty countries with backgrounds in social science, natural science, civil engineering, economics and law.

The programme opens with a review of natural- and social-science approaches to sustainable development, followed by analytical and quantitative tools applied to interdisciplinary case studies with students from other disciplines. In the third semester, students choose electives aligned with their Bachelor's background, and the fourth semester is a degree project.

Admission, the detailed programme outline and the syllabus are all administered through Uppsala University's own pages (uu.se) rather than SLU's. Graduates work as consultants, managers, decision-makers in the private or public sector, or teachers, or continue to PhD study.
