Sustainable Energy and Development (SEDev) is a 24-month Master of Engineering programme focused on universal access to affordable, reliable, and renewable energy systems within the context of international development cooperation. The programme trains students in modern engineering, management, and social skills relevant to initiating and managing energy system transitions in communities worldwide. The curriculum is divided into a preparatory semester and two main semesters, each built around a core module. The first main semester covers analysis and complexity of energy systems, combining programming and systems modelling with renewable energy technologies and modules on geoinformatics and international development cooperation. The second main semester addresses sustainable and just energy system solutions, bringing together social science, economics, energy market analysis, and project management. A five-week international community energy project with partner organisations abroad is part of the programme, giving students hands-on experience in consultancy and planning under real-world conditions. The final phase covers field research, an internship with a company, international organisation, or research institution, and the Master's thesis, which runs over the last five months. The programme begins in the winter semester and runs over 4 semesters, including the preparatory course. A German language course accompanies the studies throughout.
