About the Program

KAIST's Robotics Program prepares students to design, build, and control machines that sense, move through, and act on the physical world. The discipline draws on mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science, covering areas such as kinematics and dynamics, control systems, computer vision, sensor integration, and artificial intelligence for planning and decision-making. Students work on problems ranging from robotic manipulation and legged locomotion to human-robot interaction, often through hands-on projects that involve building and testing physical robotic systems in addition to writing the software that controls them. Because robotics touches manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, agriculture, and defense, graduates find opportunities across a wide range of industries. Common career paths include robotics engineer roles in manufacturing automation, positions developing autonomous vehicles and drones, work on service and medical robots, and research roles at universities or corporate laboratories pushing the field forward. This master's program is hosted by KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) in Yuseong-gu, South Korea, and takes two years to complete, with all instruction delivered in English. Students are admitted through the September and March intakes; a separate February intake applies only to KAIST's MBA program. Given the interdisciplinary nature of robotics, applicants typically arrive with backgrounds in mechanical, electrical, or computer engineering.
