Master in Transformation Studies

Cottbus, Germany Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

Transformation Studies at Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg is a four-semester interdisciplinary master's programme that trains students to analyse, accompany, and actively shape processes of cultural, socio-technical, and economic change. The programme addresses transformation contexts including structural change in industry, digitalisation, climate change and sustainable development, de-globalisation, and post-growth transitions. Students choose one of three fields of study at the outset: Sociocultural Transformation, Socioeconomic and Institutional Transformation, or Sociotechnical Transformation. The curriculum combines three core modules on transformation theories and methodologies, elective modules — of which the majority are drawn from the student's chosen field — a study project in applied transformation research, and a master's thesis. Mobility windows are available for periods of study abroad, and students are encouraged to develop an individual study plan with the support of a programme mentor. Teaching covers science and technology research, social and economic sciences, legal aspects of transformation, and inter- and transdisciplinary, communicative, media, and ethical competencies. The language of instruction and examination is English. The programme is based at Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg in Cottbus, Germany.
