The Bachelor of Engineering in Umweltingenieurwesen at Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft des Saarlandes (htw saar) integrates a 16-week practical phase and an Umweltprojekt, during the 4th semester. This focus on practical experience is complemented by a choice of two specialisation directions: Infrastructure and Technology. These directions allow students to gain expertise in areas such as environmental science, water management, and renewable energies, or in environmental engineering and measurement technology.

The programme enhances students' methodological and procedural knowledge, equipping them to address the impacts of western lifestyles on the environment. Graduates will be prepared to develop sustainable concepts for reducing emissions and implementing modern digital planning tools, such as CAD, CFD, and GIS. Additionally, the curriculum covers the ecological and economic aspects of environmental management, ensuring that graduates are well-rounded and ready to contribute to resilient societies in an intact environment.

Some of the key modules include Waterbau I and Waterbau II for those specialising in Infrastructure, and Environmental Engineering and Waste Management and Renewable Energies for those in the Technology track.

The goal of this programme is to produce engineers capable of monitoring and evaluating environmental systems, creating environmental reports, and participating in authorisation procedures. The programme’s interdisciplinary approach ensures that graduates possess a broad skill set, encompassing nature, circular economy, and energy management.

The curriculum is designed to include a practical focus, with modules such as Umweltprojekt I and Umweltprojekt II integrated into the early semesters. This practical focus is further emphasised by the 16-week practical study phase in the 4th semester, where students gain hands-on experience in their chosen field.
