Bachelor in Verpleegkunde

Graduates from the four-year Verpleegkunde programme at HZ go on to work with people of all ages and health conditions in various healthcare settings. They are trained to critically assess patients, understand and communicate their needs, and make informed decisions about their care. Students learn through a mix of theory and practice, including stages at different healthcare institutions, such as home care, elderly care, disability care, psychiatry, and hospitals. The programme emphasizes vitality, prevention, and the well-being of both patients and caregivers. HZ's strong connections to the professional field help students find suitable placements. Throughout the programme, students develop critical thinking, communication, and leadership skills, preparing them for diverse roles in healthcare, including nursing, care coordination, and more.

• In the first year, students develop basic nursing skills and start practical placements. Modules include anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology, as well as practical skills like measuring blood pressure and communicating with patients.
• In the second and third years, students tackle more complex care situations, deepen their clinical reasoning, and learn to work within multidisciplinary teams. They also have the option to choose a minor to specialize or broaden their knowledge.
• In the fourth year, students are prepared for their role as a beginning nurse, working independently in complex care situations, and learning to reflect on their professional practice.
