Bachelor in Writing and Literature (Online)

The degree runs over three full-time years, each divided into two semesters. Year 1 builds a foundation in literature, drama and introductory writing practice; Year 2 expands to playwriting, screenwriting, poetry and twentieth-century literary movements; Year 3 focuses on a substantial portfolio of original work supported by mentors.

A distinctive feature is the monthly ‘The Word’ series, organised with Sligo Central Library, where nationally-known authors give talks and students run an open-mic, linking the online classroom to the wider Sligo writing community. Students also contribute to the Scrimshaw Journal, gaining experience in editing and publication.

Each week students attend live online seminars and workshops up to four days, participate in peer-review sessions, and work on projects ranging from podcasts and short films to prose, poetry and scripts. The final-year portfolio is produced under close staff mentorship, preparing graduates for professional practice.
