Over three years the programme shifts from a broad foundation in literature, drama and introductory writing practice in the first year, to increasingly specialised creative work in the second year, and culminates in a mentored portfolio project in the final year. In year 1 students develop essential writing techniques and explore diverse forms such as life writing, articles and short fiction while studying classic and contemporary drama and literature. Year 2 deepens practice through play-writing, screen-writing, poetry and television writing, alongside a critical investigation of twentieth-century literary and cultural movements. In the third year learners produce a sustained body of original work, supported by modules in nonfiction, contemporary Irish writing and professional workshops that include visits from agents, publishers and editors. Graduates leave with a versatile creative writing skillset and a strong critical understanding of literature, enabling them to work as authors, scriptwriters, editors, content creators, broadcasters or publishing professionals, or to progress to postgraduate study.
