How much does a Kazakhstan student visa cost in 2026?
Applying for a student visa in Kazakhstan on the C9 study visa costs $80 in fees you cannot skip: C9 study visa, single entry up to 90 days ($80). Situational extras (C9 multiple entry up to one year, instead of single and notarized translation of parental consent, under 18s) add up to $120 more. Tuition, living costs and proof-of-funds sit outside this total. All amounts are US dollars, last checked September 2026.
C9 study visa cost breakdown
Every line the Kazakhstan application puts on your card, in US dollars, as of September 2026.
Amounts are US dollars. Kazakhstan bills in its own currency, so the exact charge moves with the exchange rate. The native figures are in the notes column where the fee schedule publishes them.
Things to watch
- The invitation is the gate, not the fee: the university lodges it with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and nothing moves at the consulate until it is approved.
- Kazakhstan prices the C9 in US dollars, so the fee does not move with the tenge.
- Missions publish the same USD 80 and USD 200 rates, and the fee is charged per applicant including family members traveling with a student.
Kazakhstan student visa requirements and documents checklist
6 documents every applicant provides.
| Document | Who needs it | What it involves |
|---|---|---|
| A visa support form approved by the Ministry of Internal Affairs | everyone | The C9 file turns on an invitation the university lodges with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which approves it and returns a visa support number. No consulate will issue the visa without it, and a tourist visa cannot be converted into one inside the country. source |
| An admission letter from the university | everyone | The letter travels with the visa support form. The C9 covers people traveling to apply to a Kazakh institution, students already enrolled and their family members, and students on an exchange program. source |
| A passport valid three months past the visa, with two blank pages | everyone | Validity has to run at least three months beyond the requested visa. The passport needs at least two blank pages for visas, no extension marks, and no erasures or unofficial notes. source |
| The completed form and one 3.5 by 4.5 cm photo | everyone | The application is completed in block letters and the photo goes in the marked box at the top right: full face, no smile, no sunglasses, no head covering unless for religious or ethnic reasons, white background. source |
| Notarized parental consent if you are under 18 | everyone | An applicant under 18 adds notarized consent from a parent or guardian to study in Kazakhstan, translated into Kazakh or Russian. source |
| The consular fee, paid before the decision and never refunded | everyone | Kazakhstan issues visas only after the consular fee and state duty are paid, and the amounts paid are not returned if the visa is refused. source |
How to apply for a Kazakhstan student visa
- Get admitted and have the university file the invitation
The invitation is approved by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the rules for issuing invitations sit in the ministry's own regulation rather than with the consulate.
source - Apply in person at a Kazakh mission
Documents are submitted in person. The C9 cannot be obtained as an e-visa: the electronic route covers only single-entry business, tourist, treatment and investor visas, and needs a separate invitation number.
source - Pay USD 80 for a single entry, USD 200 for multiple
A single-entry C9 runs up to 90 days and costs USD 80. The multiple-entry version runs up to a year and costs USD 200.
source - Allow five working days for the decision
The published service time for issuing an entry visa is five working days. Where another body has to approve something first and does not answer in time, the service is provided within one working day of that approval arriving.
source - Collect the passport, then deal with the visa where you study
Passports go back in person or by courier. C9 visas are issued at the location of the educational institution the holder is enrolled at, so extensions and reissues happen where the university is, not where you first applied.

Kazakhstan student visa processing time
Kazakhstan publishes a five-working-day service time for issuing entry visas, and its missions repeat it. The invitation the Ministry of Internal Affairs has to approve first sits outside that clock.
